Any landscape attracts the painter’s attention, but his predilection lies with the city, especially river- and sea-scapes. It is possible to talk of a new genre with a whole set of specific traits and motifs – a “coastscape”. A widening of the genre’s boundaries is its distinguishing characteristic. The water is no longer the only focus of the artist’s interest, but he is equally attracted to the inhabited shore of the sea or a lake. The contact between sea and man in Zlenko’s works is never broken; the sea appears both friendly and romantic
